J5 Programs

Exists to provide girls and their mothers with the necessary resources to develop skills to become self-sufficient financially, academically and well-rounded individually. 

Girls Achievement Program

Girls Achievement Program (G.A.P.), mentors’ students and partners with their parents in an effort to overcome barriers to maintain school readiness, acceptable school attendance and as well as opportunities to eliminate the summer slide. J5 meets weekly with the girls and quarterly with both mentee’s and their mothers for activities to increase a stronger bond. This component provides weekly mentoring to the girls via volunteers, who are certified teachers and counselors at their school. This essential component is ongoing throughout the school year with measurable improvements of the student’s emotional, social and academic progress. During the summer months, students are encouraged to participate in a “Summer Educational Program” that promote academic growth in order to avoid the academic decline. Students and parents must participate in the “Back-to-School Kick-Off” in order to receive the grade level supplies for school preparedness.

Dream Board Party

The Dream Board Party uses a two-generation approach which focuses on empowering students and their mothers to mentally prepare for personal, educational and career goals. According to a study conducted by Gail Matthews at Dominican University, “Those who wrote down their goals accomplished significantly more than those who did not write down their goals”. This is done through a four-step approach that is clear and measurable:

2. Make it Measurable
3. Set Benchmarks
4. Celebrate Your Success!

Academic Boot Camp

Academic Boot Camp (A.B.C.) is an academic based summer camp focusing on preventing the summer slide, which is centered on reading skills for J5 Experience mentees,’ pre-kindergarten through 5th grade with a preeminent focus on building social skills and character development, science exploration, and physical development.

Money Matters

Money Matters is a free workshop that offers information on Homeownership, Financial Planning, Credit Repair, and Vocational Training for adult learners and open to the public. Come out and invest in bettering your future!

Money Matters: Kids Edition will offer visual and tactical beginning to understand how to effectively use money and build a strong financial foundation with the guidance of their parents using a 2 Generation Approach. With the knowledge the gained, tools and practice they need to make informed financial decisions to reach their own personal goals and dreams. This program is only offer to our mentees.
